In lesson 2 for this week, you were asked to reflect on your understanding of health leadership and how this resonates with your own personality and core values. These reflections were then to be captured in a short personal leadership statement. Include this leadership statement in your blog entry for this week, answering the following:
1. What are your core leadership values?
2. What do you expect of the people you work with?
3. What can the people you work with expect from you?
4. How will you evaluate your performance?
1. Core leadership values:
Leadership is the capacity of someone to lead others . An efficient leader has to possess certain values to lead his team or group effectively to achieve the goals. In the introspection (I ) analysed some of the leadership core values that ( I) possess, they are :
* Integrity :
It is the condition of being pure or wholesome and is the term for steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code.
* Respect : I have the Respect to others in my heart and used to treat others with value.
* Passion : A leader should have the passion towards the profession . I have the passion to my profession and to my position.
*Transparency : The leader should have a transparent nature. It is essential for gaining the followers' or team members' trust and confidence
* Empathy: It is the ability to put oneself in another person's shoe. As a nurse / health professional I have the quality of empathy in my heart.
* Authenticity: The quality of being authentic or established authority.
* Good communication skills
2. As a leader ( I ) expect my co- workers or team members to have certain values like:
* Honesty
* Listening
* Positive attitude
* Reliability
* Accountability
* Open communication
* Encouraging nature
3. My team members can expect from me:
They can expect a democratic leader, who values the opinion of others and encourages the team members to participate in setting goals, planning and implementation of tasks etc. Also they can expect the core values of leadership from me , eventhough ( I am ) not perfect, like honesty, passion , empathy, transparency, integrity etc. My leadership style will be Participatory leadership except some critical situations.
4. I will evaluate my performance through :
* Self appraisal and self reflection : There are self assessment tools for self evaluation. Spending some time for self reflection, can help to understand the self and to analyse the deficiencies as well as the strengths.
* Peer group evaluation and feedback: It is an effective way for assessing the professional and personal performance . It helps to understand the others' perception about me and any suggestions to improve the performance or communication.
* Track the accomplishments : I will track my accomplishments and try to gain more achievements.
