What psychological principles do you see at work in your day-to-day life? Give specific examples.
Psychology, according to many lay people is a field where people hypnotize and read others minds but not many are aware that the components of psychology such as motivation, memory, health behavior, emotional intelligence, social skills etc. All these would make a person more productive and at the same time a better person.
In my day-to-day life the first thing that drives me forward is motivation coupled with my self-esteem and self-confidence. It has helped me stay focused in my education and other activities that were challenging. Once I attended an inter school science project competition. Although many had given their names for the competition in the beginning, most of them withdrew because they lost their motivation half way as they were not able to progress further. My class teacher was a biggest motivator and I met my class teacher to get some pep input. She told me that whatever the human mind can dream, it can also achieve because it never dreams of something which is impossible. She also told that people who procrastinate and give-up will never achieve anything in their entire life. I went on to win the competition later.
Second thing I use is emotional intelligence that helps me understand and interact with others and at the same time maintaining my emotions under control. It has helped me understand the memory techniques that helped me with my academic performance. Finally it has also helped me understand the importance of healthy eating habits and positive thinking thus enriching my life to a great extent.
