In my opinion one of the job fields which are not adequately compensated is teaching profession especially school teachers. The value of knowledge transferred to the students through teaching is not measurable and the current performance systems are not adequate to measure the value of teaching. When the students earn much in their life with the knowledge and skills acquired from the teachers, the teachers are still living under poverty in most of the countries. Most of the teachers are underpaid in developing countries and the governments are not much effective in providing a better compensation for the teaching staff. The situation of college professors can be different but the school teachers are the main underpaid category though they are responsible for laying the foundation for our knowledge and career growth. The researches in the field of early childhood education prove that the teachers are paid less without any benefits like health benefits and retirement plans. The lack of benefits and fewer wages may affect the quality of education as the teachers feel less motivated to perform well as the payment is not enough for their basic needs. Federal and state governments should develop programs to compensate the underpaid school teachers.

The Handbook on Early Childhood education by Robert.C.Pianta provides information on the importance to adequately compensate the ECE teachers.
