Environmental Hazards
Increase in Environment Related Health Hazards in Recent Years
The study of environmental health is crucial to one's understanding of the hazards and potential adverse effects posed by environmental agents and the extent to which environmental factors play a role in human disease. This foundation is essential for being an effective advocate for preventing environmentally caused diseases and for more advanced study of environmental health issues.
Using the Internet, research on the topic, "Health Hazards Caused Due to the Environment in the Recent Past."
On the basis of your research and understanding of the topic, create a 3- to 4-page document that addresses the following questions:
Discuss one type of environmental health problem that you have in your own community.
Explain how you can determine whether you are exposed to increased levels of environmental hazards in your home.
Identify and explain the types of associations found between environmental hazards and health outcomes.
Explain a relationship between exposure to a hazard in the environment and degenerative brain disease, such as Alzheimer.
Explain why children are more vulnerable to environmental toxins than adults. What types of policies are needed to protect vulnerable populations from environmental hazards?
Environmental health hazards are caused because of changes in environment which may be natural or manmade.
Health hazards are caused by air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, and naturally by earthquakes, storms, etc.
We will discuss about indoor air pollution which leads to health problems in community.
Gases and particles in air pollute the air indoors. Usually people from US mostly stay indoor so they get affected . Indoor may contain any harmful gases , chemicals because of refrigerators, air conditioning systems, ovens and tobacco smoke if someone smokes in home.Indoor air pollutants from burning wood as fuel for cooking and other uses leads to serious human health problems such as pneumonia, bronchitis, cancer, heart disease and asthma because the smoke is inhaled and particles articulate in respiratory system. Volatile organic compounds are also emitted by paints on walls, varnishes on doors. Cleaning sprays , pesticides , handwashing liquids, sanitizers, body sprays all circulate inside the home acting as allergens which are very harmful to our respiratory system. Prolonged exposure to all the allergens lead to carcinoma lung, asthma and even respiratory failure. In addition dust mites, bugs , cockroaches also cause hazard indoors .
Stoke , alzheimers, and parkinsonism are pathologically linked to pollution because of air. The toxins in air affect the neuro cells and tissues if exposed for long periods . Multiple sclerosis incidence increases in case of passive smokers. The particles cause inflammation in brain tissues.
Children are affected more because their immunity level is less . The pollutants also affect cognitive and behaviour development in children .Intelligent quotient decreases, attention span of kids altered and also prenatally if exposed lead to abortions and developmental deficiencies.
