Dear Student,

United States foreign policy is a brief overview of major trends regarding the foreign policy of the United States from the American Revolution to the present.

The officially stated goals of the foreign policy of the United States of America, including all the Bureaus and Offices in the United States Department of State,[1] as mentioned in the Foreign Policy Agenda of the Department of State, are "to build and sustain a more democratic, secure, and prosperous world for the benefit of the American people and the international community.

The main trend regarding the history of U.S. foreign policy since the American Revolution is the shift from non-interventionism before and after World War I, to its growth as a world power and global hegemony during and since World War II and the end of the Cold War in the 20th century. Since the 19th century, U.S. foreign policy also has been characterized by a shift from the realist school to the idealistic or Wilsonian school of international relations.

Main Key Point

1) Military

U.S.done Mutual defense agreements with countries like Australia and New Zealand,Japan,South Korea,Philippine,Thailand, with other states formerly in the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization

The United States is a founding member of NATO,Under the NATO charter, the United States is compelled to defend any NATO state that is attacked by a foreign power. The United States itself was the first country to invoke the mutual defense provisions of the alliance,

2) Unilateral vs. multilateral military actions

The country has had permanent membership and veto power in the United Nations Security Council, allowing it to undertake any military action without formal Security Council opposition.

With vast military expenditures, the United States is known as the sole remaining superpower after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The U.S. contributes a relatively small number of personnel for United Nations peacekeeping operations.

3) Missile defense

The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) was a proposal by U.S. President Ronald Reagan on March 23, 1983 to use ground and space-based systems to protect the United States from attack by strategic nuclear ballistic missiles, later dubbed "Star Wars". The initiative focused on strategic defense rather than the prior strategic offense doctrine of mutual assured destruction (MAD). Though it was never fully developed or deployed, the research and technologies of SDI paved the way for some anti-ballistic missile systems of today

4) Exporting democracy

overall effectiveness of U.S. efforts to encourage democracy in foreign nations - military interventions improved democracy in other countries regarding defense exports

5) War on Drugs

United States foreign policy is influenced by the efforts of the U.S. government to control imports of illicit drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and cannabis

*Arab–Israeli conflict

The Arab–Israeli conflict refers to the ongoing political tension, military conflicts and disputes between Arab countries and Israel, which climaxed during the 20th century. The roots of the Arab–Israeli conflict have been attributed to the support by Arab League member countries for the Palestinians, a fellow League member, in the ongoing Israeli–Palestinian conflict, which in turn has been attributed to the simultaneous rise of Zionism and Arab nationalism towards the end of the 19th century, though the two national movements had not clashed until the 1920s

The initiative, which has been reconfirmed since, calls for normalizing relations between the Arab region and Israel, in exchange for a full withdrawal by Israel from the occupied territories and settlement is done between two countries

When a US domestic producer begins selling rxports, they typically need to worry about the foreign exchange market, since often the revenues an exporter earns are foreign currencies that then need to be traded into dollars. Because the foreign exchange value of the dollar tends to fluctuate, this adds an additional level of tisk to the exporter’s business. What are some factors that would make a domestic producer willing to take on this extra and new type of risk?
