List three types of video signals. Compare their mutual advantages and disadvantages.
There are mainly three types of video signals. These are
1. Composite Video
2. Component Video
3. S-Video
There mutual advantages and disadvantages are given below :
The advantage of Composite Video is that it is convenient and use less bandwidth. But the flaw in it is that the quality of the signal is compromised here like the colour starts to fade or bleed and becomes less defined. Also chrominance and luminance when get combined, it is very difficult to separate them and hence can't be cleanly separated. It is an analog system and hence get easily replaced by various digital signals.
Just like Composite Video, Component Video is also analog system and also had several disadvantages as in case of Composite Video. Analog cables transmit data via waveforms and hence are at risk to get interfered by radio waves and other electronic signals. Here the picture quality gets affected negatively as it has less bandwidth than digital signals.
Component Video is a colour difference video format and here the splitting of information goes one step further. An S-Video has two cables but the Component video has three, that are Y,Pb and Pr, and hence colour rendering is better in comparison to S-video.
The Component Video carries the image or video in a single, low quality signal whereas S-video uses two signals (Chroma and Luma). That's why, you'll get far better video signal quality in case of S-video. In S-video, you get a wider bandwidth and this helps in offering better clarity of picture.
