Name and describe two different milestones in a child’s reasoning that appear during the third stage of Piaget’s theory of cognitive development. What are the biological changes that make these thought processes possible?
The third stage of Piaget’s theory of cognitive development is known as "The Concrete Operational Stage" and usually occurs between the age 7 to 11 years. The most important milestone that occurs during this stage is that a child starts thinking logically in a more organized manner however they still struggle with abstract and hypothetical concepts. Second important milestone in this stage is that they start thinking about how other people may react or feel about their behaviour and understand the concept of uniqueness in individual's thoughts. They also start understanding the concept of conservation and reversibility.
During this stage, a child prior experience changes the structure of our brain and the brains learns to rearrange the thoughts to classify and build concrete opertional mental structure. In fact, the size of the head during this stage is increased by about one inch. His/her brain will start applying logic and reasoning to concrete events. All the inherited Information from the surrounding enviroment tnow ravels much fater through the nervous system and different regions of the brain system and work coordination with one another in new combinations.
