Expert Solution

37. Testosterone is essential for spermatogenesis. LH stimulates Leydig's cell to produce testosterone. Hence, in the absence of LH , testosterone will not be produced and eventually there will be no spermatogenesis. Although a small amount of testosterone is also produced by adrenal glands, it is not sufficient to support spermatogenesis.
Answer: (a) Testosterone may not be produced.

42. On the action of Pepsin in the stomach, the complex dietary proteins are converted to smaller peptides. In the small intestine when peptidases act on these smaller peptides, they convert it into amino acids.

Answer: (a) Pepsin-Peptides-Peptidases-Amino acids

Heart Murmur: Abnormal bloodflow through the heart causes the turbulent sound of blood flow to be heard, known as heart murmur. This maybe caused due to faulty heart valves being narrowed (stenosis) or valve leak. Most common types of heart murmur are due to collapse or improper closing of the Mitral valve, which is a atrioventricular valve in the left side .This leads to leak of blood from left ventricle to left atrium.

Answer: (d) faulty atrioventricular valves

52. The cardiac cycle consists of two major phases: Systole and Diastole . It is the series of events that occur during heart beat. One heart beat consists of systole and diastole of both artia and ventricles.

Systole: phase of contraction

Diastole: phase of relaxation

In the beginning all the heart chambers are in relaxation state (joint diastole). During this the right atrium is filled by superior and inferior vena cava and left atrium by pulmonary veins, due to increasing pressure, the atrioventricular valves slowly oven and blood flows from atria to respective ventricles passively. After this Atrial systole begins and forces more blood into  the ventricles. Now, increased blood volume increases ventricular pressure and the atrioventricular valves close. Ventricular systole begins, atria undergo diastole in the meanwhile. The ventricular systole forces blood into aorta and and pulmonary artery by opening semilunar valves. Now ventricular diastole takes place, semilunar valves close to prevent back flow, at the same time, atrioventricular valves open and blood flows into ventricles. The chambers enter joint diastole.

Answer: (a) relaxation of heart muscles.

57. TRUE. Vaginal diaphragm forms a barrier between female uterus and entry of sperms. It is a dome shaped cup like thing that covers the cervical opening, made up of silicon.I must be be used along with a spermicide to make the birth control more affective. Any accidental leak of sperms across the diaphragm can be checked by the spermicidal agent.
