As a geotechnical engineer, you have been asked to conduct experiments that are required to be used in strength and static calculations. If the ground class is not determined and the budget is considered to be unlimited, explain what experiments you choose and why.

Solutions

Expert Solution

condition :Budget is unlimited and ground class is unknown

STRENGTH AND STATIC TESTS WE CAN CHOOSE

Core cutter or Sand replacement method  : For density of soil

Choose core cutter or sand replacement depending on hardness of soil.

It is required to calculate density of soil for calculation of strength and settlement.

seive analysis and atterberg limits : As ground class is unknown it is necessary to classify the soil type .

Also liquid limit, plastic limit need to be found

Constant head or variable head test or pumping out test : These tests are used to determine the permebaiity of soil sample

Choose any one of the above test depending on the soil type.

Oedometer or consolidation test : This test is conduct to determine consolidation parameters

TRIAXIAL TEST : It is the must performed test to determine the shear strength .

PLATE BEARING TEST : it must be performed to determine bearing capacity and settlement

ALL THE ABOVE TEST CAN DEFINE SOIL AND ITS STRENGTH.

As an Electrical Engineer, you have been asked to design a receiver that detects a particular sequence of bits transmitted from a remote transmitter. Your system is a MEALY machine that has an input ‘w’ and an output ‘z’ that produces z=1 when the previous two values of w are 00 or 11 otherwise it should give z=0. Please note that there would be only 3 states. Draw the corresponding state diagram and state table.
