What is your perspective regarding attempts to define "abnormal" psychological functioning; what potential problems may result from this on a sociocultural level?
Behaviour is considered as normal if it consists of atypical or undesirable behaviour and results in impairment in individual functioning. The abnormal behaviour may arise out of biological, social or psychological factors. Any abnormal behaviour can be harmful to society as well as self if it is not handled well. The list of abnormal behaviour includes the anxiety, bipolar disorder, stress related or trauma disorders, somatic disorders, neurodevelopment disorders such as autism, communication disorders etc.
Actually I don't think that any so that any problems would arise on the socio cultural level if they are identified as mentally challenged people rather than abnormal behaviour. Now-a-days there are many organisations are creating lot of awareness programmes for them to include on the social level, to understand them. Many schools are also encouraging the admission of autistic or the mongol kids amongst the normal children. If children understand these special kids at childhood then would have positive perspective towards them right from the childhood. Every culture or society should accept them instead of staying away or else these people would display more maladaptive behaviour in the society.
