Who are the major contributors (theorists) to each theory? Contrast functional theory, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. Which theory is a macro level theory and which is a micro level theory?

Functionalism is a macro level theory that proposes that the society is made up of complex systems that work together in order to bring solidarity and stability. Herbert Spencer and Robert Merton are the two most important proponents of functional theory.

Conflict theory is a macro level theory proposed by Karl Marx suggests that the society is in a continuous conflict because of the limited resources available and the pursuit of those resource by different groups in the society.

Symbolic Interaction theory is a micro level sociological theory was proposed by George Herbert Mead and Herbert Blumer suggests that people learn and derive meaning for things from the interaction with others but these meanings are already set with the social norms in the society. Language and other non-verbal communication facilitate this interaction.
