Motivation is very important in all settings, including learning, working in business organizations, leading and working in the military, coaching, parenting, dieting/exercising, counseling, etc., and this applies to the individual as well as to the leader/manager. Please answer the following questions, and include research to support your answer.
Motivation is one of the most important factors of life which is kind of related and needed in every sphere of our life. This is mainly the process through which we get the drive or energy kr momentum to reach a particular goal inorder to satisfy certain subjective needs of ours. According to Decy and Ryan (1985), motivation can be briefly classified into two types which have later been found to be highly crucial in understanding and determining work motivation. These two types are 'Intrinsic motivation' and 'Extrinsic motivation'.
As the name suggests, the main difference between these two is that one deals with internal factors or intrinsic factors while the other deals with external factors or extrinsic factors. The motivation which a person gets from external rewards such as money, fame, promotion, bonus etc in a work place can be referred to as extrinsic motivation. On the other hand, the motivation which a person gets from internal satisfaction such as feeling happy to do the work, enjoying the work, felling responsible for the work, increasing interest in the work etc can be referred to as intrinsic motivation.
It has been found from various studies that intrinsic motivation is more crucial for workplace performance than extrinsic motivation and there are certain ways which can be recommended for facilitating intrinsic motivation. According to Wang (2019), there are mainly three ways which can be used to facilitate the employee's intrinsic motivation which will eventually benefit the company. These are:
