what are the positive and negative consequences of white collar crime?
Answer- The term ' white collar crime' was first described by Edwin Sutherland, a sociologist in 1939. According to him," A crime committed by a person of respectability and high social status in the course of his occupation is known as white collar crime."
White collar crimes are those crimes that are committed by people for financial gain. Mainly business and government professionals are involved in these types of crimes. White collar crimes include fraud, bribery, cyber crime, extortion, embezzlement etc. There are some positive and negative consequences of white collar crimes that can be described as follows-
Positive consequences of White collar crimes- The people who commit white collar crimes generally make money through mental work rather than manual work. These people are knowledgeable and educated who work as administratives and other government employees. These criminals are high paid workers and make money in huge amounts through illegal means still stay safe.
Negative consequences of White collar crimes- It is believed that white collar crimes damage the moral culture of a society. These crimes create distrust among people and the criminals gain unfair advantages through their activities. White collar crimes harm the economy of the nation and free enterprise system.
