dentify and discuss the four types of sport spectators. Discuss which type of spectator you are and why. Also discuss someone you know who is a different type of spectator than you, and why.
THE SELF-STARTERS/Super Fans- These are the kinds of fans who will seek out their favorite team and join thousands in cheering the home team when it comes to every game. Most people find it easy to root for the home team because their head coach, the mascot or the ball team were raised in the area. It can be an easy transition to feel more connected to your club, even if you live across the country. THE DIE HARDERS- The die hards are the die-hards' opposite. They're the people who will be among the first people in line, spend the money to sit in the lower bowl of the stadium and will often go so far as to literally sit next to the team's merchandise table to get a better view and buy jerseys or pennants to cheer for. These sports spectators represent those who mostly watch sports. They watch their favorite teams frequently and regularly, by watching them play on television, listening to the radio, speaking with friends or being on social media. They are genuine sports lovers and expected to have played some sport at one point in their lives and spend for their favorite teams. They have a great deal of idea about the sport and know where to look to get the latest stats and news. As mentioned above, they care about the skill of the players as much as the politics of the sport. The Fair Weather Fan- Such fans don’t watch sports for the competition or results; instead, they are attracted to the overall social experience that comes with it. This means their commitment to sports viewership is far more casual than other fans. Since their motive for watching isn’t tied to the sport itself, these types of fans might now find themselves gravitating toward non-sports related content. Fair-weather fans will miss live sports, but will adjust and spend their time watching cooking shows, reality television or shows on OTT platforms. The Multitasker- These fans can’t get enough of sports, period. Managing fantasy leagues is more than just a hobby, and they are attracted to any sport where point scoring is involved. This type of fan doesn’t necessarily follow a specific team or sport, but is interested in anything sports related. Multitaskers will now turn their attention to sports-centric films and documentaries, like ESPN 30 for 30. In addition to these films and sports specials, multitasker fans will miss the competitive nature of sports and might take up video games to curb their appetite for competition. One thing the reporters did find in the research was that the fans were looking for more news about the players than about the teams. I belong to Die-hard category because I never miss a game of my favourite team and I prefer to be constantly in tune with the performance of favorite team. I also revisit older games of my favourite team that are saved on my DVD and tune into sports newscasts for the latest updates on players, teams and leagues during the lapse in live play.
