write several reasons to point the importance to do lab Testing for materials in structural engineering and point out why their theoretical values cannot be fully trusted before they can be allowed to be used in a project?
Importance of lab testing for materials is as following-
1- To visualise the actual deformation in material while we apply load at it.
2- To find authenticity of theoretical proven value.
3- To get characteristics value such as Young's modulus, Poisson ratio etc. Which will further help in analysis.
4- To compare material characteristics.
5- To prove various theorems.
Theoretical values can't be trusted reason behind this statement is there's always some uncertainty related to assumption in any theoretical value obtained (e.g. homogeneous and isotropic assumption while truth is no material is homogeneous and isotropic) apart from that there is always difference in environment in which theoretical values is obtained and in which it is going to be used in addition to that there is always some deficiency related to material ( such as crack and voids) whose theoretical analysis is bit difficult.
