discuss the importance of the clinical interview. Write from the point of view of a therapist include how you might feel about a counselor who is taking notes during the interview and how you might feel about receiving a diagnosis.
Clinical interview is very important in the process of diagnosis and treatment procedure. The clinical interview includes conversations between the client and the therapist to help the psychologist understand the deep rooted problems of a client. In the process of diagnosis, some therapists pull out notes in order to collect and record data. However, this may make a client feel distracted, ignored and judged. Firstly, when the client is either, laying, sitting and talking not looking at the therapist while the therapist is tucked away in corner scribbling on a notepad, this can make the client feel very distracted. However, confidentiality is the ethic followed in the process of clinical interview, recording data on a notepad can easily make the client feel otherwise. The client would never be able to develop a healthy relationship with the therapist, which would lead to a treatment process which the client would not be able to trust. Thus, that is the reason why other therapists prefer voice recorders or mentally recording data over taking notes. Taking notes can be very distracting.
