Yes, the educational requiremnt of police officers is too
lenient because it is very minimal as compared to their role and
responsibility that they have to perform. Police officers act as
the starting point for the criminal justice systemand regularly
interact with judges and other judicial officials.
Educational standards suggested by me:
- They should be graduated so that they can attained better
skills with independent decision making and problem solving.
- They should also pursue higher education while continuing to
serve the country by studying online as they work in rotating
shifts attending in service training and appaearing in court.
- Computer skills should be basic requirement as law enforcement
has changed dramatically in last 30 years to function and
communicate in a modern technical society.
- Modern police department need highly educated people capable or
leading change in an evolving technlogy oriented society
Yes, the law enforcement needs to be diverse hiring more
minorities and women but valuing diversity does not mean placing
unqualified minority and women applicants in jobs. It merely
recognizes that it might require proactice recruitement and
selection to discover the many qualified minority potential
applicant who exist.Law enforcement agencies can reap many
nbenefits of workplace diversity.
As the chief of police the steps i would take to hire more
minorities and women
- Diversity management by the organisationwhhich includes
developing specific strategies to diversity such as programs aimed
at increasing cultural sensitivity and reducing inequality
- I hire government accountability officer to examine best
practices as the federal leval and identifies 10 agencies as having
the most success in diversity management.
- I will make diversification part of the organization's
strategic plan
- I will do the recruitement by reaching out to minority colleges
and university to find diverse candidate.
In states where marijuna is legal, the police department should
weaken their drug policies because
- It will reduce the gang violence associated with durg
trafficking and prevent the emergence of powerful organized
criminal groups
- It will improve the health, economic and social well being
- It restore the quality of life
- It protects the integrity of criminal justice
institutions.
