Which nuclei can be anaylzed by NMR spectroscopy? (i tired just 1^H and 13^C together)(I also tried all of them but 3^H together)(I don't know which of these can be anazylzed by NMR spectorscopy)

1^H

2^H

3^H

12^C

13^C

Expert Solution

  1. NMR-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy which involves transition of a nucleus from one spin state to another
  2. The absorption of electromagnetic radiation during transition happens only in spin-active nuclei
  3. The nuclei having nuclear spin not equal to zero are spin-active, when they placed in a magnetic field the transition occurs
  4. The nuclei with even-even ( even number of protons and even number of neutrons) have a spin I=0,odd-odd all have integral nuclear spin, other than zero and (odd-even or vice-versa) have half odd integral
  5. The nuclei having a nuclear spin (I) not equal to zero can be spin-active. E.g: H1 ,C13.
  6. The nuclei having a nuclear spin (I) equal to zero are not spin active. E.g:C12 .
  7. Although, nuclear spin plays an inevitable role in NMR, along with it also depends on the natural abundance of the nuclei
  8. H1(99.98%),H2(0.02%),H3(0.00%),C 12(98.89%) But I=0,C13(1.11%) I=1/2 are its natural abundance.
  9. Finally, with the account of natural abundance and nuclear spin H1 ,C13 can be analysed by NMR.
  10. H2 ,H 3 cannot be analyzed due to their natural abundance and C12 cannot be analyzed due to spin inactive nature.
