For Information Cards Part 6, create an information card for each of the following medications (8 total):
Each Pharmacology Information Card should focus on a single medication used in the surgical environment and must contain the following information:
1)Naloxone
-Generic/Brand name - Narcan, Evzio,Nyxiod
-Indications and usage - indicated for complete or partial reversal of opioid depression - including respiratory depression ,it is also indicated for diagnosis of suspected or known acute opioid overdosage, may be used as an adjunctive agent to increase blood pressure in the management of septic shock.
-classification schedule -it belongs to a class of drugs called opiod antagonist.
-dosage forms -injectable solution - 0.4 mg/ mL ,1 mg/mL intramuscular or subcutaneously- 0.4mg/ 0.4 mL
-adverse reactions or side effects -body aches, fever, running nose, sweating, irritability, shivering, weakness, nausea ,vomiting, stomach cramps, increased blood pressure and fast heartbeat.
2) Lidocaine
-generic or brand name - Xylocaine
-indications and usage -it is used to treat ventricular tachycardia, ventricular arrhythmia, local anaesthesia,anaesthetic lubricant when used as a topical agent.
-classification schedule -it belongs to a class of drugs known as a local anesthetic of the amino amide type.
-dosage forms - infusion solution in D5W 100 mg/100mL,200mg/mL. Injectable solution - 10 mg/mL ,20 mg/mL.
-adverse reactions or side effects -low blood pressure, swelling, skin irritation, nausea, constipation, vomiting, small red or purple spots on skin, headache, numbness, cardiac arrest, abnormal heartbeat, seizures, malignant hyperthermia.
3) Bupivacaine
-generic or brand name - Marcaine,Sensorcaine,Vivacaine
-indications and usage -it is indicated for local infiltration, peripheral and sympathetic nerve blocks, epidural blocks.
-classification schedule-local anesthetics amide type
-dosage forms-0.5 %,0.25%,0.75%
-adverse reactions or side-effects-anxiety, chest pain, cold clammy pale skin, numbness, difficulty in passing urine, itching, abnormal heart rhythms, back pain, blurred vision.
