Paralytic, Depolarizing Neuromuscular blocking agent
#. Mechanism of Action:
Prevents neuromuscular transmission by blocking the effect of acetylcholine at the myoneural junction
#. Indications:
Rapid sequence intubation (RSI)
#. Contraindications:
1. Narrow angle glaucoma
2. Major trauma, burns or underlying myopathy (increased risk of rhabdomyolysis and hyperkalemia)
3. Hyperthermia
#. Side Effects:
Cardiovascular: hypotension, bradycardia, dysrhythmia
Neurological: increased intraocular pressure
#. Precautions:
Use with caution in neonates and children (increased risk of hyperthermia)
#.Interactions:
1. Diazepam may shorten the duration of paralysis
2. Narcotics and Oxytocin may increase neuromuscular blockades

IV, IM
#. Onset and Duration of Actions:
Onset in 1 minute IV and 2-3 minutes IM. Either may last 6-10 minutes

Adult: 1-1.5 mg/kg IVP/IO or 2.5-4.0 mg/kg IM. Maximum dosage 150 mg
