The government of Texas works under the Constitution of Texas and contains of a unitarydemocratic state government working under a presidential system that employs the Dillon Rule, as well as governments at the county and municipal stages.

Article 4 of the Texas Constitution expresses the executive department (branch) of Texas. Texas make use of a “plural executive” which means the power of the Governor are restricted and alloted amongst other government officials. In other sense, there is not one government official in Texas that is entirely responsible for the Texas Executive Branch. Below are some of the members of the Texas Plural Executive and their duties:

Lieutenant Governor: Works as the leading officer of the Texas Senate, first in line of progression for Governor, member of the Legislative Redistricting Board, Chair of the Legislative Budget Board, elected to 4 years terms by the public with no term limits.

Attorney General: Works as the lawyer for the state of Texas, including representing the state on civil matters, and in charge of the explanation of the constitutionality of laws. The Attorney General is choosed by the people to 4 year terms with no term limits.

Secretary of State: The Texas Secretary of State is secluded by the Texas Governor and established by the Texas Senate. The Secretary of State works as the chief election officer (meaning the office makes sure that county governments obey the election rules), officially verifys the signature of the Texas Governor on official documents, and guides the Governor on Texas border and Mexican matters.

Commissioner of the General Land Office: The Commissioner is appointed by the people to one 4 year term. Even though this office is section of the Executive Branch, the Office of the Commissioner of the General Land Office is legalized by Article 14, Section 1 of the Texas Constitution.[4]

Comptroller of Public Accounts: The Comptroller works as the chief tax collector and accounting officer. This office is also take charge for notifying the biennial budget of the state.

Other members of the Texas Plural Executive include: Commissioner of Agriculture, Railroad Commission, State Board of Education, Elected/Appointed Boards and Commissions, Appointed Agency Directors.
