Before we proceed with the functions of the human resource unit, we must what is a HR unit.
The HR unit basically oversees employment-related functions, such as recruitment, payroll, compensation management, onboarding, performance management, and exit. It is all about increasing employee performance to their highest level corresponding to their role in the organization.
The major functions are :-
1) Recruitment and Selection - The HR department finds the right people for open positions. Recruitment is the process of captivating, screening, and selecting potential and qualified candidates based on objective criteria for a particular job.
2) Training and Development - The human resources unit establishes on the job and off the job training programs so employees obtain the knowledge they need to properly execute their duties. HR provides resources such as workshops and seminars, and leadership training to improve manager and employee relations to foster employee development.
3) Maintaining Good Working Conditions - It is the responsibility of the human resource management to provide good working conditions to the employee so that they may like the workplace and the work environment. It is the fundamental duty of the HR department to motivate the employees. Employee welfare is another concept which should be managed by HR team. Employee welfare promotes job satisfaction.
4) Terminations - HR oversees employee terminations. They inform terminated employees of their rights to certain benefits, such as health insurance. During layoffs, HR gives employees the appropriate notice & help minimize the effect of layoffs on employees.
