Colony culture means increasing colonial power through knowledge, activities, education ie subordination of one cultural identity over another.During the colonial era , colonists came from different countries and tried to create new lives through mixing their language ,religion, customs and traditions ,which led to a vibrant social structure which is ever changing.
When one nation subjugates another country, it takes over its population and exploits them, thus thrusting their own language and cultural values on the people of the colonized country.They impose their religion,cultural practices , economics on the people of the colonized country. They try to extend their authority with the goal of economic dominance.In the 19th century, trade flourished and markets expanded but there was loss of freedom and livelihoods .The people of the colonized country worked as slaves and did the work which produced wealth for Colonial power.Thus colonization was not favourable to the people of the colonized country bringing slavery, brutality, death and did not give any opportunity for economic and cultural growth.
The people of Congo suffered a lot in the hands of the Belgians for rubber trade in the 19th century.Indians suffered in the hands of Britain.US became a colonial power in the late 1890'sby taking over some colonies held by Spain.Britain and France madea lot of additions to their territories in the 19th century.England's control over India made many painful economic and social changes.Imperial rule destroyed India's local hand loom industry with the intention of financing its own industrialization.
