HISTORY
In 200 word answer the following question. What were the causes and outcome of the war of 1812? In what ways were the strained relations with native American nations intertwined with the War?
Native Americans got involved in the conflict in order to secure British support for their own war against the US. They were led by Tecumseh and played a key role in Canada's defence. However, an American victory at the Thames war in October 1813 led to the death of Tecumseh and the collapse of his Native American alliance. The end of the war was a tragedy for the Native Americans – they were never able to pursue foreign allies again or attempt to push back the American frontier.
But the defeat of the Creek, Shawnee, Ojibwe, Potawatomi, and other native nations, in addition to forging alliances and establishing folklore, allowed U.S. officials to negotiate a series of treaties with tribes, causing the ceding of lands to the U.S. An unbelievable number of more than 200 treaties were forced on tribes, setting up nearly a hundred reservations west of the Mississippi. These land loss deals have become a part of tribal history. Importantly, tribal communities understand acutely the day-to-day relevance of their political sovereignty and their relationship of trust with the federal government.
