Federalism is a seperation of power in a government organization between the central authority and regional or territorial authority.

In a federalist system of government there are two levels of government. i.e., combining a general government ( central or federal government) for wider governance of larger territorial areas and a regional government ( state, territorial, provincial and etc. ) for smaller or regional governance.

Dual federalism and cooperative federalism are the two types of federalism. In the former one the union and states have equal power. under this form of federalism state government retain all powers except, which are expressely conferred to union government. Under the cooperative federalism the state governments are inferior to the federal government. Under this form of federalism the federal governmet can strecth its powers as much as it need.

The federalism also have many avdantages and disadvantages.

First we can learn about the advantages of federalism.
• The state governments can test with new policies and the other states can learn from it.
• This form leads to political stability even if the head of the national government removes, because there shall be regional or territorial governments and it allows to maintain stability till the appointment of new federal head.
• Prevents tyranny because of the dual system of government. If one person or group tries to control the three branches of central government, the state government still function independently.
Now we can learn some disadvantages of federalism.
• This system prevents creation of a national policy. It is difficult to create a single national policy in a federal system. Instead of this, there shall be different policies in different regions, this leads to confusion.
• In this form of government the state and central governments will try to blame each other for failed policies. The overlap of jurisdiction over state government and federal government make it easy for blaming each other for falied policies.
