“A lot of Americans think the US has more social mobility than other western industrialized countries,”
Measuring social mobility usually involves examining the relationship between the income of one generation and that of the following generation. We expect there to be some correlation between the incomes of the two generations; after all, it is reasonable to assume that wealthier parents provide not only material assets to the next generation but also attributes that may aid their wealth generation. Wealthier parents are typically more educated, are able to invest in their children's development, and tend to entertain higher expectations that their children will gain success.
For example, half the sons and daughters whose parents were in the top tier of occupations now work in occupations that score 76 or higher (on a 100-point scale) while half the sons and daughters of parents from the bottom tier now work in occupations that score 28 or less on that scale
Yes, it really possible to become wealthiet and gain higher status through hard work because when you are fully dedicated towards something, set your goals and work on accordingly, then nothing and no one can stop to be successful , and if you are successful then obviously you will have high status and be wealthier
