Dear Student,
Henry Seyle was known as the ' Father of Stress'
He explained stress model as GAS ( General Adaptation Syndrome) ,which states that stressor(any event which threatens an organisms well-being) leads to 3 stage body response.
1) Alarm:
After perceiving stressor, flight or fight response is activated by the sympathetic system.
2) Resistance :
Parasympathetic nervous system gets activated and the body resists and compensates .
3) Exhaustion :
If the stressor continues beyond the capacity of the body, the resources become exhausted and death may occur .
Coming to the hormonal response, the brain sends signals to adrenal glands to release Epinephrine and Norepinephrine .
Then the release of Cortisol occurs by the adrenals due to the stimulation by Pituitary and Hypothalamus.
This increases alertness ,focus, etc and initiates the sympathetic nervous system to increase blood pressure ,heart rate ,etc.
Once the stressful situation has passed, recovery and relaxation of the body occurs. ✅
