Calculate the total number of moles of oxygen containing products that can be formed by the decomposition of 1.75 moles of ammonium nitrate according to the balance chemical equation 2NH4NO3 = 2N2 + O2 + 4H2O
Ans. Following stoichiometry of balanced reaction 2 mol ammonium nitrate forms 1 mol oxygen (O2).
So,
Moles of O2 formed = (1 mol O2 / 2 mol NH4NO3) x moles of NH4NO3 taken
= (1 mol O2 / 2 mol NH4NO3) x 1.75 mol NH4NO3
= 0.875 mol O2
Hence, moles of oxygen (O2) formed = 0.875 mol
