The early twentieth century was an era of American business expansion and progressive reform. As they called themselves, the progressives had worked to make American society a better and safer place to live in. We were seeking to make big business more responsible by different kinds of legislation. They worked to clean up corrupt city governments, improve working conditions in factories and improve living conditions for those living in slum areas, a large number of whom were recent Southern and Eastern European immigrants. Most democrats have had an interest in the climate and resource management.

This generation of Americans always wished for a more egalitarian position in the world. At home, this included extending women's voting rights and a number of democratic amendments such as the Senators' recall, referendum and direct election. Abroad, this meant seeking to make the planet politically free. The United States joined Great Britain and France in their war against autocratic Germany and Austria-Hungary in 1917 two democratic nations-. Soon after the Great War, most Americans turned away from worries about foreign affairs, taking a live and let live attitude.

The 1920s were close to the Progressive Period in that America began its economic development and prosperity, also known as the "roaring twenties" and the "modern age" Workers' incomes rose along with those of the middle class and wealthier Americans. Automotive manufacturing was the main growth field. Americans fell in love with the car which changed their way of life drastically. On the other hand, many reform practices which had been so common after 1900 deteriorated in the 1920s.
