(Answer) In the book, “She’s not there” by Jennifer Boylan, James is the protagonist who has a wife named Grace and children with her. Later on, James becomes a transgender woman named Jenny. Although he has changed his identity to become a woman, the responsibilities and connections that James had in the past are still a part of his life.
Jenny is now facing a great transition period where she has to make sure that her transition has not led to the destruction of relationships or avoidance of responsibility. With her wife Grace, Jenny had to now establish a new relationship as she has been her wife for so long and is still the mother of her children. Jenny also wanted to maintain a loving relationship with her children in order to make sure that her family is not neglected because of her transition.
Furthermore, Grace and the children had the responsibility of simply not forgetting that this person who was their father is still a parental figure who still wants to be a part of their lives. In acknowledging this sentiment, they are responsible for putting an equal effort in maintaining the love in the new dynamics of their relationship.
