It is the research questions that becomes the basis of objective of the research and on the basis of objective, most appropriate methodology is selected, so that research work can answer all the questions and objective of the research based on research problem is achieved. It can be understood by one example. There is a research question that wants to explore the factors that are the basis of consumers making buying decisions of cosmetics products. To answer this question, the most appropriate method is to opt for the exploratory research design, select factor analysis as a multivariate analysis and opt for the primary data collection using survey questionnaire. It will help identify factors that are most importantly considered by the consumers and upon that a company can work on to launch new products. But, in different research question to establish correlation between stock's expected return and size of the company and or market return is answered using descriptive or empirical research design with secondary data collected from database such as Bloomberg, Reuters or other reputed sources. Hence, it can be seen that it is the research question that makes researcher identify the most appropriate research method to use.
