Why can extra credit in the classroom be seen as a socio-economic issue?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Extra credit can be seen as a socio economic issue . We have seen it from a critical perspective .For example in the classroom there are children from different educational and economic backgrounds . Extra credit system creates a socio economic divide among the students .This will not be immediate but in the future when students will go for jobs then at that time the extra credit one's having more grading will be preferred over others. This will reduce the employment probability for other students . And it further widens the socio-economic gap . This is the main reason why we need equal treatment of everyone in the education system .Also some children come from less privileged backgrounds and they fail to get the extra credits . This also affects their learning and reduces their self confidence because they start comparing themselves with others. In long term they develop issues with career selection and their education
