what is the relationship between an antigen and an antibody and the immune response in individuals who suffer from allegries
The antigens are molecules which are deemed foreign by our body and hence are able to initiate an allergic or immune response in the body. The antigens are specific areas on them called as epitopes and they are recognized by antibodies which help in eliminating the antigens from the body. The antibodies are immune cells which are produced by B-cells and they help in initiating an immune response in the body when they are exposed to the antigens. The antibodies hence are biological immune molecule and form complex with the antigen through antigen – antibody specific interaction and start the immune reaction. As the antigen enters the body, an immune response is stimulated and initiated as the natural defense mechanism of the body is triggers. This leads to formation of the antibodies which binds to the specific area of the antigens called epitopes and inactivate and eliminate it from system. Hence an immune response starts when the antibodies bind to antigens and the later is inactivated, destroyed and removed from body.
