Why is it important to understand personality? How can psychodynamic personality theories explain human communication?
It is important to understand personality because:
1) It will help a person know another person better and will be able to reason out their ways of behaving.
2) Understanding personality is a scientific process and it will help a person understand people's activities such as academic and job performance, quality and stability of social relationships, physical health and mortality, political attitudes and risks of mental disorder.
3) It would help in having more personalized psychological and psychiatric treatments.
4) It would help people understand, recognise and respect individual differences.
Psychodynamic theories explain human communication:
1) It is based upon the interaction between human drives and forces.
2) Freud's study of the unconscious is highly referred to in human communication.
3) Psychodynamic theories understand how human beings interpret thoughts and behaviours while communicating. They also pay emphasis on past events that impacts ones present behaviour.
4) Psychodynamic theories are linked to psychoanalysis which seeks to reveal the unconscious desires of a person.
