Expert Solution

Planning is the first role of the management that involves setting up benchmarks, standards and make provisions that are used to guide the system and make the system to work according to the plan. Here, controlling is the function that ensures that the initiatives under the planning is properly followed as a part of evaluation and corrective actions are taken to restore the planned objectives. Hence, it is the planning that sets the objectives and these objectives are followed by the controlling function. It means that planning is the basis of controlling function.
There are different management functions that are disposed by the managers and these functions are closely linked by the controlling function as controlling is used to evaluate the outcome of the whole system or work project. After the evaluation, the necessary area of concern associated with the different functions are identified and corrective action is suggested. For example, an organizing function is about organization of resources so that activities planned are effectively carried out. Here, the controlling function evaluates the work conducted as a part of organizing function and identifies the errors committed due to non-performance of the system. So, controlling is used to evaluate the due diligence performed in different management functions.
