  1. Annual precipitation measurements (Pi in cm) for M City, were given in Problem 1. Determine the magnitude of the 10-year precipitation depth if the data fit:

  1. the normal distribution.
  2. the Gumbel distribution.

How many times was the P10 (normal) exceeded in the 20-year annual precipitation record given in Problem 1 ?

Please clarify each step of the solution

Expert Solution

For the given data of precipitation mean, standard deviation and skewness coefficient was calculated using the formula mentioned. After that to find 10-year precipitation using Normal distribution standard normal table was used. I have attached the normal table for reference.

Feedback appreciated!! Thanks!

Over a 18 day period, daily measurements of silver yield from a mine us taken. The company has an original goal of the 60th percentile being more than 50 tons. From the 18 days, 8 days yielded less than 50 tons. No day yielded exactly 50 tons. Test to see if the company’s goal is upheld. (a) State the hypothesis for testing this claim. The standard deviation of the annual precipitations of a region over a period of 100 years was 16 cm. During the last 15 years a standard deviation of annual precipitations was computed as 10 cm. Test the hypothesis that the precipitations in the region have become less variable than in the past, using a significance level of (a) 0.05 and (b) 0.01. Use chi-square distribution.
