Solutions

Expert Solution

1. The horizontal sidings can be attached either to wood studs or sheathing.

Some 3/4-inch-thick patterns of siding can be applied directly over wall studs, whereas, thinner patterns should be installed over a base of plywood or oriented strand board sheathing.

There is no need of bolts. The sidings are normally nailed to studs or sheathings.

2. Structural steel are shop fabricated and site assembled. They are shop fabricated to ensure quality and accuracy of dimensions. But they are transported to the site and assembled at the site by means of bolts, rivets or welds.

3.  Light-gauge steel studs are attached to top and bottom tracks using self-tapping screws.

Holes are not typically drilled in steel framing before installing the screws. Therefore, self-drilling, self-tapping screws are the most common fasteners used to frame steel members.

4. Statement is false.

Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is an engineered wood product that uses multiple layers of thin wood assembled with adhesives. Since it is manufactured in a factory, it is stronger, straighter, and more uniform. Due to its composite nature, it is much less likely than conventional lumber or sawn lumber to warp or shrink.

A block of wood slides on a frictionless horizontal surface. It is attached to a spring and oscillates with a period of 0.8 s. A second block rests on top of the first. The coefficient of static friction between the two blocks is 0.25. If the amplitude of oscillations is 1.2 cm, will the block on the top slip? Block A rests on a horizontal tabletop. A light horizontal rope is attached to it and passes over a pulley, and block B is suspended from the free end of the rope. The light rope that connects the two blocks does not slip over the surface of the pulley (radius 0.080 m) because the pulley rotates on a frictionless axle. The horizontal surface on which block A (mass 3.30 kg) moves is frictionless. The system is released from rest, and...
