"How would you define your musical identity?
Did you have music classes in your early years that contributed to
your musical identity?
Did you ever have private or group instrument lessons?
Musical identity is defined by how much music has been able to shape and influence your body, your character and your social and cultural environments, and the way you behave in them.
Personally for about two years I used to take flute lessons when I was young, and so i understand the seven notes of music. I can understand how each musical note or tune can be broken down and written in the seven notes. I also like listening to the 70's and 80s hindi Indian music. I am able to feel the difference between the music of then and the music of now.
Indian film music is also something that i love listening to again the older generation types, when there was meanin to lyrics and the music sounded melliflous and seamlessly fitted into the story of the movie.
Yes i had private lessons for about two years to learn the flute, but after that got busy in my studies and had to give up. But the experience was great and I wish i can now go back and learn something. I have bought my young boy a keyboard and would love to be able to learn that.
