Writing a thesis and breaking down Langston Hughes I too sing America
Introduction: I too sing America by Langston Hughes is an anti discriminate poem , that talks about the injustice of the whites to the blacks.
Breaking of the Poem : I am the Dark Brother
This means that doesn't mean anything and every one is same, every one is a felt of one big family when if they have a skin color, they are all brothers and sisters and make America what is really is,
But I laugh, and eat well, and grow strong :
This doesn't only suggest that the speaker is getting stronger physically but also mentally, the speaker knows that tomorrow will be better and he believes that slavery will be stopped and the whites will see how beautiful his people are and appreciate them,
I will be at the table when company comes, nobody I will dare say to me :
The speaker hopes for better future for Afro-Americans and hope for equal rights and freedom for him.
Core Discussion :
- It believed that in america, the whites are always prejudiced against the blacks because of their color of skin,
- this unfair treatment makes the blacks feel that they do not belong to America but they are only servants or slaves,
- but in this poem the poet feels as if he is in a great comparison with the whites as he insists on providing to them that he is an American person,
- the poem discussess how America is made-up of all sorts of different workers and classes,
- the poet doesn't speak about various ethinic group, the works they do , how they are treated,
- he reminds america needed some sort of changes, we can't celebrate a country without celebrating everyone in the country and their contributions,
- It is really loving that the hope he inspires in the end saying "Just you wait and see, i am binding my time "
Summary : I too sing America, by Langston Hughes, which motivates a person and describes the pain felt by an American in world dominant by the whites, speaker trys to agony with a hope that tomorrow definitely will be good, also about slavery and how African Americans were treated badly. Speaker gives positive impact on the readers which makes them think about how they can hope for future. He doesn't take slavery personally and hope for tomorrow.
Additionally I am giving some facts about Racial discrimination, but you do not include in your thesis which goes into wrong perspective : Globally, racial discrimination is a main hurdle, not only pertaining to one country, for ex : in US
- Black students represented only limited percentage of enrollment compare with whites,
- Students experiencing race based harassment,
; White pts received better quality healthcare than black,
- Black women likely more experience a pregnant related death than white women,
- Black individuals are twice as likely to be unemployed than white people.
