The normal primary functions of liver are:
- Bile production and excretion
- Excretion of bilirubin, cholesterol, hormones and drugs.
- Metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates
- Blood detoxification and purification
The abnormalities of these 3 functions leads
to:
- Bile passes through the bile duct
and is stored in the gall bladder and during and after meal, bile
gets excreted from the gall bladder and it passes into duodenum
through the bile duct. This bile helps with the digestion and
absorption of proteins, fats, vitamins, nutrients and in the
elimination of bilirubin, cholesterol and other toxins from the
body. So, the abnormalities in these functions of liver leads to
malabsorption of vital nutrients and this causes accumulation of
toxic substances in the body. If the bile is not produced in the
body, it can lead to complications like removal of gall bladder.
So, our body depends mostly on the functions performed by the
liver.
