If plants with wrinkled seeds are 100% selected against, how many generations would it take to remove a recessive allele? Explain (round seeded plants are either RR or Rr)

Solutions

Expert Solution

Here, the given character for the seed is shape of the seed. their are two possibility for this character. Seed may either be round or wrinkled. The genotype assigned for the wrinkled seed is rr, whereas for the round seed; two possibilities are their RR or Rr.

Now, the selected seed was already given as the wrinkled. So, for removal of the recessive allele rr, It must be crossed with either homozygous dominant RR, or heterozygous dominant Rr. Since there are two different combination in other side of parents (RR or Rr), two possibilities are arised. Either rr is crossed with RR or Rr.
