There are several things you need to know before you attempt to select the proper pump. List at least three points about "How to select the right pump for the job" with brief discussion for each item. Refer to the Pump Application Manual.
solution is posted below.
hope it helps.
to select right pump for job there are various questions which we need to be asked first:
1: gallon of water required to be pumped?
here volume of water is the most concern that how fast we can pump the water. centrifugal pump as they can discharge a large amount at low heads an be used for the purpose where requirement of water to be pumped by you.
2: height of water where water has to be pumped?
the hieght from the ground level where water is to be pumped is a criterion to select the pump. for high rise building high head pumps are to be used. reciprocating pump gives high head for low discharge hence they can be chosen to carry water to high rise buildings.
3: hieght requirement of pump when it leaves the pump?
now if we need and excessive head even after reaching the high rise building then pump should be chosen with such head that there is some excess head left after reaching the point.
4:length of pipe or hose which are to be used to carry water?
as there is loss of head due to friction in the conduit wether pipe or hose and if is lengthy then head loss will be higher hence the length of pipe should be considered while selecting pump .
5:if the water transported is to be just dumped or there is requirement of some work to be performed?
this consider special conditioning if there is requirement of additional excessive pressure head at the end of pipe for example to have gravel washing.
6: altitude where pump is used also effects working efficiency of pump there is deduction of 3.5% efficiency for rise of 1000ft seal level and a decrement of 1% for each increment of 10 degree above 60 degree fahrenheit.
