Compare and contrast the replication strategies of the following.
a) Viruses and subviral entities
b) Bacteriophages and eukaryotic viruses.

Solutions

Expert Solution

ANSWER-

1) VIRUSES AND SUB VIRAL PARTICLES

Viruses multiply and reproduce inside the host organism with the help of lytic and lysogenic cycles, they take help of the host organisms dna and produces a large num of its copies with the help of process called reverse transcription, in this whole process no other organism is being invovled except virus and host organism

but, in sub viral praticles, like prions and others, they need a virsu as a subsidiary agent to help them in reproduction. ie along with the host dna they need a virus which act as a subsodiary agent. thus , 3 organisms are required in the reproduction of sub viral particles.

2) BACTERIPHAGES AND EUKARYOTIC VIRUS

bacteriophages are those viruses which get multiply and divide only in the bacteria by attacking them and thus reproduce by multiplication and somehow end up killing the bacteria, while eukaryotic viruses are those viruses which infect only eukaryotic cells and results in killing the eukaryotic organism. in both the process, lytic and lysogenic cycle is being used in spreading the infection
