Capacity analysis is important in health service environment because "it provides a quantitative and methodology for establishing the production constraints of a giving service system or function. This allows the manager to decide the most resourceful mix of resources to accomplish service at highest operational capacity as well as ways in which the resources can be influenced to accomplish changes in desired output .capacity analysis is used to identify over all capability of organisation, or process to deliver goods as output and services to a particular number of people.

Examples of inputs include work hours, supplies, equipment and facilities while an example of outputs include patients days, Ambulatory care visits ,meals served and number of surgeries.
