Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer :

Given 34 years old male, 5'6'' tall

A) Desirable body weight by Tannhauser’s Method :

Formula:

Desirable body weight = Height in centimeters -100

1 feet = 12 inches, 1 inche = 2.54 Cm

Height = 5 feet 6 inches ( 5'6'')

= 5 feet 12 incehs / feet +  6 inches

= 60 inches + 6 inches

= 66 inches 2.54 centimeters / inche

Height = 167.64 centimeters

Desirable body weight = Height in centimeters -100

= 167.64 cm - 100

Desirable body weight = 67.64 Kg

It should be deduct with additional 10% to adjust body frame.

Desirable body weight = 67.64 Kg - (10 % of 67.64)

= 67.64 Kg - 6.76

= 60.88 kg OR 61 Kg

Desirable body weight = 61 Kg   .

B) Basal metabolic rate by simple method :

Formula:

Basal metabolic rate (BMR) = 88.4 + (13.4 weight in Kg ) + ( 4.8 height in Centimeters) - ( 5.68   age in years)

weight = 61 Kg

Height = 167.64 Cm

Age = 34 years

These values are apllied in the formula:

Basal metabolic rate (BMR) = 88.4 + (13.4 61 Kg ) + ( 4.8 167.64  Centimeters) - ( 5.68   34 years)

= 88.4 + ( 817.4 ) + ( 804.67 ) - ( 193.12 )

= 1710.4 - 193. 12

= 1517 .3 Calories

Basal metabolic rate (BMR) =   1517 .3 Calories.

C) Physical activity requirement :

The 34 yeal old man performs light activity. Th physical activity requirement shows that light activity and that physical activity level according to that is 1.375.

D) Specific dynamic action of food ( SDA):

Formula: SDA = 10 % ( BMR + PAL)

= 10% ( 1517.3 + 1.375 )

= 10% 1518.7

= 151.87 K cal

Specific dynamic action of food ( SDA) = 151.87 Kcal.

E) Total energy requirement :

It is calculated by using the formula as:

Total energy requirement = Basal metabolic rate (BMR) + Physical activity level (PAL) + Specific dynamic action of food ( SDA)

Total energy requirement = BMR + PAL + SDA

= 1517.3 + 1.375 + 151.87

= 1670.5

Total energy requirement = 1670.5 Kcal / day.
