In your own words, describe nine learning experiences that cover each of the following: RC II-1: Science/Sensory RC II-2: Language and Literacy RC II-3: Creativity RC II-4: Fine Motor (please choose an indoor activity) RC II-5: Gross Motor (please choose an outdoor activity) RC II-6: Self-Concepts RC II-7: Emotional Skills/Regulation RC II-8: Social Skills RC II-9: Math Preschool For each activity, indicate the age group (3s, 4s, or 5s) and list the intended goals, materials, and process/teaching strategies. For each activity, specify how it is developmentally appropriate for that age group. Infant/Toddler For each activity indicate the age group (young, infants, mobile infants, or toddler) and list the intended goals, materials and process/teaching strategies. For each activity, specify how it is developmentally appropriate for that age group. Of the nine activities, three should be appropriate for young infants, three for mobile infants, and three for toddlers.
1. Sensory learning experience: Children can be exposed to a sensory zone wherein they need to differ between hot and cold and soft and rough sensations. The sensory zone could be made in one corner of the classroom or in an activity room. A table would be required and four mugs with materials- such as sand (rough), cotton (soft), warm water (hot), cold water (cold). Children would come one by one and dip their fingers in the mug and try to say out the sensation felt. This could be appropriate for 4 year olds.
2. Language and Literacy: A story telling and paraphrasing activity could be used. A regular classroom setting in which the teacher plays an active role of the story teller and the children plays the role of paraphrasing what the teacher said. This activity improves speaking as well as listening skills. It could be appropriate for 5 year olds.
3. Creativity: Students could be given materials for making a fruit salad- for example some cut fruits, one bowl and some cream. The students would be asked to make their own fruit salad and also identify the colours and names of the fruits being used. This would boost creativity as student would think of using certain fruits and mix it with cream, an activity which would be novel for them. It could be appropriate for 5 year olds.
4. Fine motor: Children could be given lego blocks to help them increase their fine motor skills. This could be used for 3 year olds.
5. Gross Motor: Children could be taken to the activity area and the teacher could give them various instructions such as sit, stand, crawl, run. etc and the children are required to follow those instructions. This would help them in gross motor skills. This could be for 4 year olds.
6. Self Concepts: Children could be taken to the activity area and could be given their own mini-mats to stand on. The teacher can then instruct the children to do various movements such as arm stretching, walking around etc. The purpose of this task is that the children should not enter another's mat or should come back to his/her own mat after walking around too. This would teach them the concept of personal space and the relevance of maintaining it. It could be done on 5 year olds.
7. Emotional skills: Children could be exposed to puppets showing different emotions. The teachers can act out the various emotions on behalf of the puppets. Children would need to identify the puppets which are well behaved and the ones who are not. This would teach them the concept of emotional regulation and its positive consequences. This could be used for 3 year olds.
8. Social skills: This activity could involve parents as well. As parents are seated in the auditorium/classroom, the children would need to come to each parent and introduce themselves. After the introduction session, the children would then need to go to a parent (not necessarily their own) and ask if they would like to have some tea/coffee. Accordingly, the teachers can help the children serve refreshments. This activity would teach students ways and joys of socializing and behaving when they are around others. This could be done with 4 year olds.
9. Math Preschool: Children in this activity needs to learn couting from 1 to 5. So the teacher needs to collect blocks preferably colourful ones to attract attention. Then the teacher need to draw big circles on a white sheet of paper and draw dots in each circle. The number of dots could range in between 1 to 5. Chidren to place the blocks accordingly in the circle. For instance, a cirlce with one dot need to have only one piece of block placed in it and so on. This activity would make them understand the concept of numbers better. This could be used for 3 year olds.
