Machine guards are barriers used to prevent the entry of any part of the human body into the moving equipment. Safety devices are controlling devices that stop or interrupt the machine’s operation when a part of the human body accidentally touches the machine. Write a short note on it various types of machine guard and sensors used in oil and gas industry (each 2.5 marks).

Types of Machine guards used in oil and gas industry :

1. Fixed guard :provides a barrier between a person and the point of opera, power train or other moving parts. These include fences, gates, and protective covers for blades, presses and all moving parts.

2. Interlocked guard : it is used to shutoff power, stops moving parts, and prevents starting of machine when it is open.

3. Adjustable guard and self adjustable guards:

These are another type of guards which is operated by humans or another machines.it is also used to stop machine when accidents occurs.

Types of sensors used in oil and gas industry :

1. Optical sensor : it is converse light rays into electrical signal.

2. Chemical sensors :this sensor is sensitive enough to detect a single chemical or biological molecules (chemical vapors).

3. Thermal sensors : it measures the amount of heat energy or coldness that is generated by objects or systems.

4. Pressure sensor : it is used to measure the gases or liquids. It can also useful for measurement of fluid flow, speed,water level and altitude.
