How the IWY ( I do, We do and You do )model creates and supports student engagement of typical and atypical students.
IWY model is veryy effective in teaching field. I do involves the teacher explaining about how to do the things, we do involves doing things together and you do involves giving more practise to the students. I am myself a tecaher for German subject and had also been vontunteer for many psychology workshops, where this model was typically seen.
When I teach students, I first explain what is in the passage then we read the passage together and in last I ask them to read the same passage for the practise. Same is the case with any gramatical excerise. For eg: I explain, then by giving certain examples we do things together and in the last I give them more exercises for the pratise.
Once I had attended workshop for autistic children, where they were taught about making candles. Since their attention is distorted, teachers need to have patience about teaching. I teacher was explaning how to do the candles, in the next step both were involved joined efforts, the autistic students were watching and performing. And later say after a week they were asked to do the same wax cadles again and were sold in an exihibition.
