Dr Bernard Lo 'sclinical model is based on 3 steps

The first step is gathering information by checking the competency and his preferences for care.Assessing the decision -making capacity by seeing that whether the patient has provided an advance directive.if the patient has negligible decision making capacity, search for the surrogate who will make decision on patients account.Collect the views of the health care team

The second step involves clarifying the ethical issues by searching for ethical issues,the ethical guidelines and look for the possible reasons for and against the alternative plans of care

The third step is resolving dilemma by meeting with the health care team and with the surrogate by enlisting various alternatives for care.Finnaly accept a decision which is agreed upon by both the parties.

An etthical dilemma occurs as aresult of conflict between moral principles that support different courses of action.The ethical dilemma in this clinical model is mainly based on advance directives.The need to obtain patients informed consent for care and treatment orders and measures such as Do not resuscitate order,withholding nutrition and fluids and discontinuing life support system.One admission to health care facility patient is asked about the existence of an advance directive,and if one exists it mus be recorded in the documents.types of advance directives include living will and durable power of attorney.The health care proxy chosen by the patient make decisions about the patients health condition.if the patient is unable to make decisions on her own a surrogate decision maker is appointed.
