Explain how you would decide what light levels are required on a work surface for particular workplaces. Give at least five examples of different visual tasks and state the range of illuminance that is acceptable for that task.
Answer-
The factor which decides the type of light levels at a particular work place are as follows-
1.Type of surfaces like reflecting or absorprtion surfaces.
2.Type of Work being done at the site.
3.Area of the work place.
4.Vision of each individual working at the workplace.
Examples of range of illumination at some work places are-
1.Public areas with dark surrounding will have a light level range of 20-50 lux.
2.Simple orientation with temporary short visits will have a range of 50-100 lux.
3.Working areas where visual tasks are occasionally performed will have a range of 100-200 lux.
4.Performance of visual task of high scale will have a range of 200-500 lux.
5.Detailed drawing work, detailed mechanical works, electronic workshops, testing and adjustments will have a range of 1500-2000 lux.
6.Paint facility work will have range of 300-600 lux.
7.Electrical equipment manufacturing will have range of 500-750 lux.
8.A simple assembly work in industry will have a range of 200-300 lux.
